Annual Meeting

Dear YMCA of Greater Charlotte friends,

Each year, our YMCA welcomes more than 25,000 new members. While most visit because of our beautiful facilities and exciting activities, they stay because of our people. Our staff and volunteers connect people effectively to programs that encourage healthy lifestyles and build community.

As you are well aware, 2009 presented challenges to individuals and families throughout greater Charlotte and even at our YMCA. Though we are optimistic that our community is turning a positive corner, the needs are still great and the YMCA could not provide these life-transforming programs without the generous support of individuals, community partners and local corporations.

At our 2010 YMCA of Greater Charlotte Annual Meeting, we recognized several individuals who do tremendous work for our YMCA without an expectation of payment or recognition. They are our volunteers and they coach our children, coordinate our events, develop our programs, guide our decisions, raise our funds and share our story. YMCA volunteers are an extension of our staff in living out the YMCA’s Christian Mission. With volunteer and donor support, our YMCA continues to have a positive impact on our community by improving the quality of life and health in adults and children. And we’ve been doing it well for 135 years.

We invite you to review our 2009 annual report and the inspiring stories told by our YMCA volunteers including this year’s John R. Mott award recipients, Tom Dooley and Family, and the Willie J. Stratford, Sr. Diversity Award Recipient, Debra Campbell. The strength and impact of our YMCA is a culmination of the skills, passion and support provided by our staff, members, donors and volunteers. Thank you for being a vital part of our Y family. You are the YMCA.
