  Ways to Volunteer
Volunteer

“When I first signed my son up to play basketball, I thought I would just try coaching for a season.  Little did I know I was in for a treat! I have been coaching now nine seasons of soccer and basketball with my son's teams and five seasons with my daughter.  All three of my children have been involved in one program or another at the YMCA. The feeling of seeing the children grow week by week is awesome.  Although I am teaching the children, I am learning from them as well and that's my favorite part.  I have made long lasting friendships with the parents and staff.  I could not imagine not being a part of this wonderful organization who has given me so much! “

Get Involved as a YMCA Volunteer

At the YMCA, your time and talent go a long way. Every hour you spend as a YMCA volunteer translates into healthier lives for people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes.

As a YMCA volunteer, you can lead an exercise class, read to a preschool class, coach a basketball team, greet people at the front desk, serve as a role model for young people, help out in the office or at a special event, or be part of a group or committee working on a neighborhood problem. No matter how you help, you'll make a big difference as you work with others to create a connection with your community.

Below are some of our ongoing needs:

Membership Greet and assist members or provide administrative assistance or support.
Fitness and Wellness

Assist in various fitness and wellness programs such as Buddy Up, Boys Rule, Girl Power or Y Team or provide administrative help.

Sports

Be a referee, scorekeeper, coach or assistant coach.

Aquatics- Junior Lifeguard

Assist us poolside at the slides, in lessons or completing swim tests.

Children's Program Center Greet parents, monitor children indoors and on the playground or assist with programs such as Terrific Tuesdays, Parent's Night Out, Kinderfitness and Ballet.
Afterschool and Children's Academy Assist with program activities, tutoring and mentoring.

We also have many special events that we need volunteers for including Healthy Kids Day, Spring into Summer 5K Race and Fun Run and Golf Tournaments.

In need of hours for school? Children can start volunteering for limited weekly hours at the age of 12!

In an effort to provide a safe environment for our members, participants, staff and volunteers, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte does have a volunteer screening process.  This may include one or more of the following: a volunteer application, references, interview and/or criminal background check dependent on the volunteer area.  We thank you for your interest and participation as the YMCA works to provide a safe environment for all.
