The Y provides a safe environment and experienced instructors to help gymnasts have fun, grow, learn new skills and move to the next level. Participants will enjoy the excitement of achieving their goals through our developmental program. They will learn to make healthy choices in an environment that teaches good sportsmanship, teamwork and the Y character values of honesty, respect, caring, responsibility and faith. The Lake Norman YMCA gymnastics program maintains USAG and AAU memberships. All staff complete training in skill progression, CPR, safety and hands-on spotting.

Class Options
Parent & Child (Co-Ed) - 1-3 years
Children are encouraged to be imaginative while they have fun, get moving and learn to follow at teacher's instructions as they exercise and play. They will practice social skills as they interact with others their age. Smaller equipment will be used to teach gross motor skills.

Toddler Play Day - 5 Years & Under |
Thursdays 11 AM - 12 PM (Fall sessions only)
Open play for toddlers and parents in the gymnastics studio. This is a great opportunity for developing gross motor and social skills!

Preschool (Co-Ed) - 3-4 Years
Preschoolers will grow and develop as they learn the fundamental vocabulary and skills associated with gymnastics. They will grow not just physically but mentally and socially as they learn how to follow a teacher's instructions, interact with peers anddevelop self-confidence on the bars, beam, floor, vault and tumbltrak.

Preschool Tumblers - 3-5 Years
Trained gymnastics instructors will teach preschoolers tumbling basics, including rolls, jumps and cartwheels. 45-minute classes meet weekly for 8 weeks.

Beginner Gymnastics (Co-Ed) - 4-13 years
For children who are just learning basic skills or who have had little formal training.

Beginner Tumbling - 5-13 years
Participants will learn forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, and the basics of back-handsprings along with strength conditioning.

Level 1 Gymnastics - 5-12 Years
In this 55-minute class, gymnasts will learn level 1 skills based on USA Gymnastics progressions. Level 1 is for gymnasts who have mastered a straight jump on the vault, a pullover on the bars, basic walks on the beam and a cartwheel on the floor. Classes meet one day a week for 8 weeks.

Level 2 Gymnastics - 6-12 Years
In this 55-minute class, gymnasts will learn level 2 skills based on USA Gymnastics progressions. Level 2 is for gymnasts who have mastered a handstand on the vault, a back hip circle on the bars, a tuck jump on the beam and a backbend on the floor. Classes meet two times/week for 8 weeks.

Combo Gymnastics Team - 5-12 Years
A combination class of beginner to intermediate-skilled gymnasts ages 5-12. Classes are 55-minutes long and meet once per week for 8 weeks.

Advanced Rec/Pre Team
In this 85-minute class, gymnasts who have progressed beyond the introductory levels of gymnastics will learn more advanced skills on vault, bars, beam and floor. This is the perfect class for those who are interested in taking their gymnastics to the next level but not yet interested in competitive gymnastics. Participants will be evaluated by the YMCA's head coach or recreational lead staff to be appropriately placed in the program. Class meets twice a week for eight weeks.

Competitive Gymnastics Team - 4-13 years
By invitation only. Competitive team members compete in AAU and USAG meets while learning teamwork, good sportsmanship, the rewards of hard work and enjoying the excitement of competition. Gymnasts compete in
compulsory levels 2-6 and optional.
