THEIR POTENTIAL
Afterschool & Summer Camp
The Lowe's YMCA provides scholarships to offer a fun, safe environment for over 155 kids and teens each week during the summer and another 100 during the hours after school where they engage in enriching, healthy activities with positive role models.
$300 provides a child with one month of afterschool care.
YMCA Y Readers
Y Readers is a literacy program for Pre-K through 2nd graders who are currently reading below grade level. During the summer of 2011, the Lowe's YMCA raised dollars to send 22 children to Y Readers at Parkview Elementary. 88% raised or maintained their reading level.
$1,200 covers the cost for one child to attend YMCA Y Readers literacy program.
Preschool
The YMCA preschool curriculum emphasizes socialization, fine and gross motor skills, education and healthy choices in a Christian environment. One in four children at the Lowe's YMCA receive financial assistance to attend preschool.
Sports and Swimming
Each year the Lowe's YMCA provides sports leagues and swim lessons for more than 1,500 children. Their experience builds social, athletic and leadership skills as well as promoting healthy physical activity. One and nine of these children receive financial assistance that enables them to participate.
$50 provides a child with one session of swim lessons.
THEIR HEALTH
Livestrong at the YMCA
The Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Lowe's YMCA worked together to develop LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, an 8-week exercise and support program designed for adult cancer survivors who have completed treatment and want to recommit to living life to the fullest. Since 2008, the program has served 180 cancer patients and survivors. This program is fully funded by the community support campaign.
$250 provides one adult with eight weeks of LIVESTRONG at the YMCA.
THEIR FUTURE
Building Teens
The Lowe's YMCA Building Teens program gives leadership and guidance to more than 30 Mooresville teens who demonstrate a high potential for success but are challenged by lifestyle, financial difficulty or peer influence. Activities include seminars on self-esteem, responsibility and nutrition as well as career development opportunities.
$350 provides one teen with a school year of Building Teens.
Charitable gifts made to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte represent a gift to the entire YMCA mission. To help the most number of people in need, the YMCA uses donations where they can do the most good by pooling them together to strengthen the entire community. Because your gift is helping the YMCA provide life-transforming programs to adults and children, your gift is tax deductible.
YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
