THEIR POTENTIAL
Afterschool and Summer Camp
The McCrorey Family YMCA offers a fun, safe, environment for kids and teens during the summer and during the hours after school where they engage in enriching, healthy activities with positive role models. In 2011, we provided scholarships for approximately 50% of children attending Afterschool and Summer Day Camp.
Community Swim Academy
Drowning is the second-leading cause of accidental death in children; the Swim Academy gives all children a fighting chance by providing free swim lessons. The Swim Academy builds self-esteem and confidence through water safety and education. In 2011, 37 children attended our Community Swim Academy.
$250 provides one week of swim lessons for five children.
THEIR HEALTH
Active Adults (55+ Years)
The McCrorey Family YMCA helps the senior members of our community avoid isolation by bringing them together to share in common interests through chair exercises, African drum circle, wellness programs, Praise dancing and Christian fellowship. We serve over 300 seniors each year through our programs and services.
$2,500 supports Active Adult programming for one year, including the African Drum and Praise Dance programs.
Youth Sports: Building Character and Self-Esteem
Each year the McCrorey YMCA builds confidence in youth by teaching children new skills and teamwork through basketball, flag football and soccer. More than 200 children enrolled in sports and recreation programs in 2011.
$75 will put one child through a sports season.
THEIR FUTURE
Teens
The McCrorey Family YMCA gives over 75 teens leadership and guidance to help them lead healthy, productive lives. Programs include seminars on self-esteem, responsibility and nutrition as well as career development opportunities. We also work with more than 125 teens for Friday Night Teen Hang Out during the summer.
$1,000 supports Friday Night Teen Hangouts for hundreds of area teens.
Room in the Inn - Urban Ministries Partnership
In partnership with Urban Ministries, the McCrorey Family YMCA provides shelter, food and activities ranging from conversation, fellowship and chapel service, where Y volunteers and staff are able to care for and support our homeless neighbors. We host this program once a month from December through March. We helped over 40 homeless men with a warm place to stay, showers and a healthy meal in 2011.
Y Achievers
In partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Y Achievers addresses Charlotte's most critical need: increasing the graduation rate from 73.6% to 90% by 2014. The program helps teens set and achieve post-secondary education and future career goals. Through academic support, career exploration and mentoring, Y Achievers helps youth raise academic standards, develop a positive sense of self, build character, explore diverse college and career options, and meet and interact with professionals who serve as role models to inspire them to greater heights. The McCrorey YMCA supports the Y Achievers program at West Charlotte High School.
Charitable gifts made to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte represent a gift to the entire YMCA mission. To help the most number of people in need, the YMCA uses donations where they can do the most good by pooling them together to strengthen the entire community. Because your gift is helping the YMCA provide life-transforming programs to adults and children, your gift is tax deductible.
YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
