THEIR POTENTIAL

Y Readers Program
Y Readers (formerly Starfish Academy) identifies Pre-K through 2nd grade children currently performing below grade level. It engages students in active learning and enrichment that improves literacy skills and self-confidence in the classroom. By combining an innovative curriculum with enthusiastic teachers and volunteers, the Y has inspired thousands of children and is critical to the community's collective effort to improve the graduation rate and success of children. During the summer of 2011, 88% of students who participated in Y Readers raised or maintained their reading levels. In 2012, the Morrison Family YMCA will provide 64 children at Nations Ford Elementary with the Y Readers program.
$1,300 provides one student with the opportunity to attend the Y Readers summer program.

THEIR FUTURE

Teen Programming
The Morrison Family YMCA assisted over 800 teens in 2011 to participate in fun, safe and engaging programs such as our YMCA Teen Leaders Club, Volunteer at Morrison, Middle School Madness and much more. These teen programs help develop teens in our community by providing them with role models and mentors who can have a positive impact on their lives as they grow in their desire and ability to be a positive force in the community.

THEIR RECOVERY

YMCA Cancer Wellness Program
There are approximately 12 million cancer survivors in the United States today. The Y and Carolinas Medical Center have joined the fight, and are fully committed to enhancing the well-being of cancer survivors from diagnosis through all stages of recovery. As part of collaboration with Carolinas HealthCare System, the Morrison Family YMCA offers a comprehensive eight-week program designed to assist in managing the physical side effects of cancer treatment for survivors during treatment or during recovery phases. This program is run by a Carolinas HealthCare Registered Nurse and a YMCA exercise specialist who will provide an individualized, comprehensive approach to help individuals regain their strength, stamina and overall well-being. The goal is to increase their physical stamina as they continue through their journey to increased health. This program is offered free of charge to the community.

Charitable gifts made to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte represent a gift to the entire YMCA mission. To help the most number of people in need, the YMCA uses donations where they can do the most good by pooling them together to strengthen the entire community. Because your gift is helping the YMCA provide life-transforming programs to adults and children, your gift is tax deductible.
