Lifeguard Training


As a certified lifeguard, you're ready for a fun and rewarding job that gives you more than a paycheck. Lifeguards develop leadership, decision-making and communications skills that carry over into future careers. Lifeguard Certification Training is a comprehensive course that focuses on water rescue and safety and prepares guards to anticipate and prevent dangers. Upon completion, participants are qualified to work at an aquatics facility as a certified lifeguard.

Class experience includes: personal safety, accident prevention, rescues and emergency management.

Each session is 38 hours long, consisting of WED-SUN training dates for 2 weeks.

 WED:   9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
 THUR:  9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
 FRI:  4:00 - 8:00 PM
 SAT:  9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
 SUN:  11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Prerequisites:

YMCA Lifeguard Training
  • 16 Years or older by the last day of YMCA Lifeguard Certification class.
  • Able to tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.
  • Able to do a head first & feet first surface dive.
  • Able to perform a long, shallow front dive from the pool deck and swim 500 yards, including 100 yards each of the following: sidestroke, front crawl, breaststroke and elementary backstroke.
  • Able to swim underwater 15 feet
  • Current certification in CPR/AED, First Aid & O2

*Prerequisite skills are performed on the first day of class before instruction begins. Candidates who do not complete the prerequisite skills to the instructor's satisfaction will not be eligible to participate in the remainder of the course.
