THEIR POTENTIAL
Afterschool & Summer Camp
The University City YMCA provides scholarships to offer a fun, safe environment for hundreds of kids and teens each week throughout the summer and school year during afterschool hours where they engage in enriching, healthy activities with positive role models.
$150 provides a child with one week of summer camp.
Preschool
The YMCA preschool curriculum emphasizes socialization, fine and gross motor skills, education and healthy choices in a Christian environment. 1 in 4 children at the University City YMCA receives financial assistance.
$50 provides a preschool registration fee for one child.
Sports and Swimming
Each year the University City YMCA provides sport leagues for nearly 1,000 children and swim lessons for another 900. Their experience builds social, athletic and leadership skills as well as promoting healthy physical activity. 25 percent of those children receive financial assistance that enables them to participate.
$500 provides a full year of swim lessons for one child.
THEIR HEALTH
Health, Well-being and Fitness
Committed to improving the health and well-being of our community, the University City YMCA provides the community with access to the resources and guidance needed to maintain and improve physical activity. At the Y, no child, family or adult is turned away. We recognize that for communities to succeed, everyone must be given the opportunity to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.
Active Adults
The University City YMCA helps the senior members of our community avoid isolation by bringing them together to share in common interests like chair aerobics, water fitness, walking, wellness workshops, creative arts, book club and travel excursions. Of those surveyed, 94% reported having made friends since getting involved with the University City YMCA.
$100 provides a senior with one month of activities.
Charitable gifts made to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte represent a gift to the entire YMCA mission. To help the most number of people in need, the YMCA uses donations where they can do the most good by pooling them together to strengthen the entire community. Because your gift is helping the YMCA provide life-transforming programs to adults and children, your gift is tax deductible.
YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
