WORK @ CAMP

Being a camp counselor is more than a job, it’s a choice to impact others in a positive way.

As a Camp Harrison Counselor you are:

Committing to the vision, mission, values and philosophy of camp. By taking ownership of what Camp is about, counselors are taking responsibility for a successful operation in all areas of camp at all times.

Connecting with others, nature and Christ in a meaningful way. Counselors will experience growth in spirit, mind and body while at camp. Serving kids on our 2100+ acres in the Brushy Mountains of NC is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Unplugged and surrounded by God’s creation, connection is inevitable.

Celebrating every moment. It doesn’t take long to realize that being a camp counselor is one of the most rewarding jobs you will ever have. Every day, camp counselors celebrate small victories and huge successes. Whether it’s teaching a camper how to shoot an arrow or helping them overcome a fear of heights, counselors find things to celebrate in every moment.

Every staff member must be ready for whatever summer brings. This may include an encouraging word after a missed goal on the soccer field, or helping a camper through a difficult issue brought up during cabin devotions. Whatever the demand, you will experience tremendous growth, personally and professionally, as you pour into the lives of your campers.

Every counselor serves in a land activity and a water activity. YMCA Lifeguard Certification is encouraged for all staff and is required for water activity chiefs. A Lifeguard Course will be available at Camp prior to the summer.

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte requires all staff to be background checked and submit a drug test in advance of reporting to camp. In addition, staff must have current CPR/First Aid Certifications. Online trainings required to work for the Y will be communicated prior to staff training.

If you feel led to serve as a camp counselor for the summer of 2017, you are invited to complete an on-line application. You will be contacted via email if there is interest in scheduling an interview.
