Last September protests and anger erupted in our streets, putting a spotlight on racial tension and distrust among neighbors. Leaders of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte recognize the responsibility of community organizations like ours to help foster relationships, establish connections and eliminate barriers to a better life.

This summer that effort begins with ensuring youth ages 13 – 18 have access to a Summer of Opportunity at the Y.

These goals also align with recommendations of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force and address the need for early interventions in life to create access and opportunities and increase economic mobility.

Program partners include Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, City of Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Communities in Schools.
