Our wellness staff team is dedicated to helping you achieve a healthier lifestyle!
Nutrition 101 A nutrition education and weight management program, designed to give basic education to individuals that are interested in maintaining their ideal body weight and for those individuals that would like information to assist them in losing less than twenty pounds.
Individuals will be able to: Evaluate fad and fraudulent weight loss programs - Verbalize and understand the Food Guide Pyramid
Calculate their individual daily caloric, protein, fat and carbohydrate needs - Choose healthier food selections at restaurants
Classes are one hour in length and are offered twice a month. Visit our events calendar to find out when our next session is scheduled.
Nutrition 101 is free for YMCA Members, however pre-registration is required to reserve your spot. Please call the Dowd YMCA CMC Health Center at (704) 716-6160 to register. Registered Dietitian Services Alicia Fogarty, MS, RD, LDN, is a CMC registered dietitian. A registered dietitian is a food and nutrition expert who has met the academic and professional requirements and passed a national exam to qualify for the credential “R.D.” Registered dietitians can administer medical nutrition therapy for a variety of medical conditions. Private, individual counseling is provided. Alicia will help you design personal menus and make recipe revisions.
Reasons to be seen by a registered dietitian include:
High blood pressure: Improve both diastolic and systolic numbers High cholesterol: Lower bad cholesterol and improve good cholesterol Diabetes/gestational diabetes: Improve blood sugars by providing menus and helping improve your A1C counts Weight loss: Lifestyle changes and how to eat by receiving personalized menus Compulsive/overeating: Simple tips to help decrease overeating Gastrointestinal disorders: Cope with constipation, Crohn's disease, GERD and many others Sports nutrition: Ideas provided to help improve physical performance Fatigue: Simple ideas to help rejuvenate our life Pregnancy: Control portion sizes as well as weight gain during pregnancy Exercise: Basic and advanced ideas to help you start a regime Or anyone interested in a nutrition consult

YMCA Weight Management Program Through interviews, assessments and classes, YMCA experts will help you set goals and find your personal health journey. YMCA Weight Management is NOT boot camp. Our health experts will meet you where you are in your health journey and find solutions that work for you. You may find that just walking more or choosing healthier snacks is your first step to a longer, happier, healthier life.
