Volunteer Spotlight

The Harris YMCA is pleased to spotlight dedicated Y member and

volunteer Charley McNealy. Charley and his wife Debbie have two sons and a daughter and have been active YMCA members since 1994. Charley is a long time volunteer with the Harris YMCA which began as a soccer coach.

Charley's first experience with the Y began as a youth with the
learn to swim program in Bay City, Michigan. After graduating from
college, he became active in the Kalamazoo, Michigan Y where he served on its Board. When he and his family moved to Charlotte
he joined and later volunteered at the Harris

A retired partner of BDO Siedman, Charley has over 30 years experience in the public accounting field. This experience is a natural fit for his leadership on our Board of Managers. In addition to this role, we are fortunate to have him serving on three of our active committees: Executive Committee, Facilities Committee and our Finance Committee. He is generous with his time and challenges us to see things from a different perspective. Charley fosters healthy discussions and brings forward suggestions that help us to see opportunities for growth financially while continuing devoted and unparallel service to our members.

You will find Charley most days graciously greeting Harris Y staff as he works his way through the building here—most likely on course to his favorite Pilates class. When not at the YMCA, he is most likely enjoying time at Lake James or following his favorite team, Michigan.

Charley has a contagious smile and is a tremendous advocate for the Harris YMCA staff. We are fortunate to have him as a part of our YMCA family and thank Charley his time and dedication.
