Beginning Ceramics: Wheel Throwing and Hand Building Ages 13-17 Learn to make clay pots, bowls, cups, mugs and plates on the pottery wheel and anything else you can imagine utilizing basic hand building techniques to make sculpture pieces. All materials included 8/ 2 Hour Sessions
Beginning Drawing Ages 13-17 Perspective, design and composition are all part of this fun class. Using a variety of media including charcoal, pastel, ink, pen and pencil, we will explore various approaches to drawing. 4/ 1 Hour Sessions
Wearable Art: Jewelry Making Ages 13-17 have you ever wanted to make your own necklace, bracelet or earrings? Now you can. This class will teach you several finishing techniques using cord, tigertail, crimps and more. Materials included. 2/ 1 Hour Sessions
2D Design: Expressive Cityscapes Ages 13-17 Inspired by artist Romare Bearden's lively collage paintings of day and night cityscapes, students will use collage materials, pastels and paints to artistically interpret the Charlotte skyline. We will go outside and sketch some of the architecture of the city, refining our drawing skills and learning about perspective then reinterpret and distort our drawings to make original expressive collage paintings about our city! 4/ 1.5 Hour Sessions
3D Design: The Painted Chair Ages 13-17 Learn about a state in Southern Mexico called Oaxaca (wah-hah-kah) and paint a chair using their whimsical style of bright colors and simple patterns. Each participant will design a family keepsake chair to be proud of. Bring your own unvarnished chair or purchase one of ours. 4/ 1.5 Hour Sessions
Basic Acrylic Painting Ages 13-17 This class will explore the characteristics of acrylic paint as a vehicle for expressing your artistic vision. We will learn about color mixing, paint application methods, and other basic paining techniques that will add to the fun excitement of creating acrylic paintings. 4/ 1.5 Hour Sessions
Face Painting Ages 13-17 Have you ever wondered how face painters at festivals and events learn their craft? In this class you will become familiar with face painting techniques, as well as basic color theory and design. Each student will apply face paint within the following genres: Full Face, Clown, Animal, and Fantasy. Students will develop portfolios containing both photos and sketches documenting their progress. This is a great class for any student interested in theatre, film, or just looking for some great ideas for next Halloween. There's also an opportunity to be part of YMCA Arts' core group of face paining volunteers for future events! 4/ 1.5 Hour Sessions Please view the program guide link to choose from our many classes!
