The Lowe's YMCA provides:
The Starfish Academy literacy program, which involves both a six-week summer literacy camp as well as a year-round afterschool and summer program for first and second grade students identified as at-risk for academic failure by their school principle or teacher.
Starfish Academy is now a nationally recognized program, having received a 2006 Coming Up Taller Award presented by the Presidential Committee on the Arts & Humanities. Serving a predominantly low-income population, this program is provided at no cost to the children or their families. |
At any given time approximately 20% of our elementary school children are functioning below grade level.

The Lowe's YMCA provides:
Afterschool and Day Camp programs in a safe, nurturing and enjoyable environment with an academic focus.
Children also participate in outdoor activities and sports, swim, and are encouraged to practice healthy life styles. |

The Lowe's YMCA provides:
In 2008, the Lowe's YMCA will provide approximately half a million dollars in scholarships. Children from low-income families will be able to participate in sports and camps, learn to swim, and their families can experience full membership benefits. |
