The Lowe’s YMCA Starfish 5K held in conjunction with YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a Mooresville tradition, celebrating healthy competition while giving back to the community. Individuals from across the area run through the streets of Morrison Plantation.
 The Lowe’s YMCA Starfish 5K is followed by a Vendor Business Fair and Healthy Kids Day activities designed to promote healthy kids and families in spirit, mind and body. YMCA Healthy Kids Day celebrates making fitness fun, and introduces kids to an array of YMCA programs and tools that teach healthy behaviors and healthy ways to play - an essential lesson in learning how to take care of themselves throughout their lifetimes.
Proceeds from this event help the Lowe’s YMCA build strong kids, families and communities in Mooresville through our signature Community Outreach program:
YMCA Starfish Academy, a summer literacy program which helps struggling 1st and 2nd graders reading below grade level. Provided at no cost to the participants, Starfish serves children in Mooresville Graded Schools who are identified by their teachers as needing extra assistance during the summer. Children improve their reading and comprehension skills and develop positive self-esteem in a safe supervised, interactive learning environment.

2009 Race Series
The Lowe’s YMCA Starfish 5K is part of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte 2009 Race Series. All proceeds from these events benefit our Community Outreach Campaign which helps fund programs for youth, seniors, teens, and families in the Charlotte area. Your race entry fee will help to continue this support in our community. Please join us in all events this year!
