Building Teens

Lowe’s YMCA Building Teens: Spirit, Mind and Body
Offered to Mooresville teens showing a high potential of success but possibly challenged by lifestyle, financial difficulty, or peer influence, this program is collaboratively implemented by the YMCA, Mooresville Recreation Department, I-CARE, Inc., Mooresville Graded Schools, and United Way of Central Carolinas.
Youth meet on Thursday afternoons at the Winnie L. Hooper Center in Mooresville. They participate in exercise, receive life skills instruction through the Career Choices Curriculum, and each week are introduced to a program from different area service agencies. Meals are included in this free program, and are predominately supplied through the generous efforts of area church congregations. Monthly fieldtrips are earned incentives which keep the young people motivated and engaged.
The Building Teens Program is made possible by a focus grant from United Way and donations secured through the Annual Community Outreach Campaign.

“I want to say thank you to everybody in the Building Teens Program. They have worked together to do what they had to do for the students. They have all done something for me whether it was nothing but to say, ‘hey.’ You all are special people and thank you very much.”
Sincerely, Chakyra Cherry
“Thanks for giving a place to come to learn new opportunities and better our outlook on life. Building Teens has helped me plan for a better future. I am very thankful for all you and your co-workers have provided for us. I look forward to continuing the program and working with you in the future.”
Thanks, Tia Mills
