Lowe’s YMCA Building Teens: Spirit, Mind and Body

Offered to Mooresville teens showing a high potential for success but possibly challenged by lifestyle, financial difficulty or peer influence, this program is collaboratively implemented by the Lowe’s YMCA, the Mooresville Recreation Department and Mooresville Graded Schools.
During the academic school year, youth meet on Thursday afternoons at the Winnie L. Hooper Center in Mooresville. They receive life skills instruction from area service providers, perform service projects in the community, visit the Lowe’s YMCA for exercise, travel to area colleges and participate in work-based fieldtrips. Meals are included in this free program. Monthly fieldtrips are utilized as incentives which keep the young people motivated and engaged.
Funding for the Building Teens Program is secured through grants and donations secured through the Annual Community Outreach Campaign.
