Prepare to dive into the perfect summer job with lifeguard certification classes offered by the YMCA. The courses, available during the week and on weekends, include CPR training, AED, Oxygen Administration and First Aid, as well as training for waterfronts, water parks and pool.
All participants of the lifeguard classes must be 16 years old by the course end date and must successfully complete the following pre-course evaluation:
- Swim a continuous 500 yards (100 yards each of front crawl/freestyle, breaststroke, sidestroke kick with one arm forwarded, inverted breaststroke kick-lets only, sidestroke)
- Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
- Dive arm-over-arm and feet first into 9 feet deep water then swim 15 feet underwater.
