Water Safety

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte is committed to providing the safest possible environment for your family.  We are putting your SAFETY FIRST!

The YMCA takes your life and the lives of your children very seriously.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths of children ages 14 and younger.  A majority of drowning accidents occur because of the victim's inability to swim.

  • All children twelve years old and younger will be swim tested.  For their safety, children who do not pass the swim test will be required to wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket OR remain within arm's reach of an adult.
  • Children attending birthday parties, afterschool, preschool and other specialty groups will be required to wear a life jacket if they do not pass the swim test.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping the YMCA protect your vested interests.
