Camp Harrison at Herring Ridge offers young horse back riders something it did not have last year; a brand new barn! The barn was built in the winter of 2008, and currently houses 12 horses for campers to ride. Camp Harrison is a YMCA of Greater Charlotte overnight camp that is located in the mountains of Boomer, NC.
While all campers may ride horses during their stay at camp, Camp Harrison also offers a special horseback riding program that helps campers learn and develop skills like grooming, bridling, saddling, horse safety, proper riding form, trail riding and more. Camp Harrison provides a traditional camp experience with outdoor adventure that includes water sports on a 140-acre lake, hiking, climbing, a challenging ropes course and personal development.
There are still sessions available for camp and for the horseback riding program. It is open to boys and girls ages 7 – 17 and has one- and two-week session options through August. For more information, or to register, parents can call 1-800-514-1417 or go to the camp’s website, www.campharrison.org. Camp Harrison is accredited by the American Camp Association.
