Getting Ahead
Making one's way out of poverty is difficult to do. At the Y, we offer the Aha! Process's “Getting Ahead” program for adult who are living in poverty and want to get out.
Getting Ahead allows 12 individuals to come together once or twice per week to discuss their situations and explore the differences in economic classes. They also learn about resources available to them. The participants, or investigators as they are called in the program, collaborate to create personal action plans to better their opportunities and help others in impoverished situations. A YMCA Family Advocate is there as a coach and supporter each step of the way.
The participants complete the course having explored the cause of their reality, and having created a specific plan of improvement for themselves, their families and their community.
