YMCA of Greater Charlotte

Safe Place

According to National Safe Place, a youth outreach organization, up to 2.8 million teenagers run away from home each year. The YMCA of Greater Charlotte has recently partnered with National Safe Place (NSP) and The Relatives, a Mecklenburg County youth shelter, to provide assistance to local teens in need of immediate help.

National Safe Place provides crisis assistance to teens through a network of community sites. Businesses and community locations that display the yellow and black Safe Place sign are committed to connecting young people in need of help with local youth services agencies. A teen can enter any designated Safe Place site and request assistance when faced with a threatening situation. The YMCA of Greater Charlotte displays the yellow Safe Place signs at 17 branch locations.
