Aquatics Programs

Parent/Child Instruction
(Ages 6 months—3 years)

P/C I (6 –12 months)

P/C II (13-36 months)

Instructor leads parents to guide their children through activities that encourage water adjustment including breath-holding, blowing bubbles, submersion as well as basic arm and leg movements. Goals of the course are reducing fear and anxiety in the aquatic environment and preparation for independent floating and movement.

Preschool Swim Instruction
(Ages 3-5 years)

Pike A: NO Swimming Skills. Beginner or apprehensive

Pike/Eel: Willing participant or can swim with floatation

Ray/Starfish: Swimming without floatation
Children are introduced to the basics of swimming including water adjustment, breathing, arm and leg movement and body position. Goals of the course are independent entry and floating as well as beginning and increasing the swimming distance on the front, back and side.

Youth Swim Instruction
(Ages 6-12)

Polliwog – No swimming skills

Guppy – Can swim with floatation

Minnow – Can swim length of the pool without floatation

Children are introduced to the basics of swimming including water adjustment, breathing, arm and leg movement and body position. Goals of the course are independent entry, floating; beginning and increasing swimming distance on the front, back and side; and development of all 4 basic strokes – Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly.

Teen/Adult Swim Instruction (Ages 13-17)

Each Teen Registration includes and Adult registration absolutely FREE. Designed for the beginner/apprehensive participant. Goals of the program are water adjustment, movement on the front back and side, floating, submersion and breathing techniques.

Adult Swim Instruction (13 and Up)

Beginner – No swimming skills

The course focuses on the five main areas of swimming - water adjustment, breathing, arm and leg movement and body position. Goals of the program are individually determined by instructor and participants with emphasis on continued swimming minimum one length of the pool. Intermediate and more advanced swimmers are encouraged to participate in private lessons.

Private Swim Lessons

Available to all ages and swimming abilities. Lessons are set up on an individual basis between instructor and participant. Goals are customized to individual needs.

Team Prep
(Ages 6-17)

Must be able to swim the length of the pool

The focus of the course is endurance and technique enhancement for the purpose of summer swim team participation or general fitness. Instruction in the 4 major swimming strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and Breaststroke) as well as starts, finishes and turns.

YMCA Lifeguard Courses
This course provides necessary training and information to obtain certification or recertification in YMCA Lifeguarding. *Participation in course does not guarantee certification. 100% attendance is required. If a participant is not able to successfully complete the physical pre-requisites (below), course fees will be refunded. Course fees will not be refunded after the 1st session has been completed.

Y Aquatic Safety Clinic

A water safety course focused on keeping you and your family safe in and around the water whether you are a swimmer or an observer. Classroom and water sessions. Water participation strongly encouraged. Snacks provided. FREE

Water Exercise Classes
(Requires YMCA membership)

H20 Ready, Set, Go – Level 1

For the new comer – deconditioned, 1st time water exerciser. Focuses on water adjustment, safety, balance, basic moves, strength and range of motion. Recommended prior to taking more advanced water exercise programs

Makin’ Waves – Level 2

Provides joint safe, low impact workout. Cardiovascular segment, muscle

conditioning and stretching. Great for “active” adults, young and young at heart! Beginners encouraged to participate in H20 Ready, Set, Go prior to entering this class.

Cardio H20 – Level 3

Higher cardio workout for the participant looking for a challenging total body workout. Includes higher impact exercises and travel with strength and toning.
