About 180,000 people are impacted through the YMCA of Greater Charlotte each year through volunteer work, sports, child care, exercise and other services.  With the ability to touch so many lives the YMCA is in a unique position to truly impact the health of our community.  We do this through our annual Community Outreach campaign.  Your gifts will go to improve the HEALTH of children, adults and seniors in greater Charlotte in spirit, mind and body.

The YMCA is committed to developing healthy minds by improving literacy. 

YMCA Starfish Academy, a nationally-acclaimed program in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Mooresville Graded Schools, targets first and second graders reading below grade level.

Seven branches of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to non-English speaking individuals.  Annually, 800 people are served.

The YMCA will provide needed health services and healthy activities to children, adults, seniors and the financially disadvantaged.

At many YMCA branches, gifts provide children in need with scholarships so they can take part in healthy out-of-school time options like sports, summer day camp and Afterschool.   These funds also underwrite teen activities and health services for seniors who may have limited or no access to medical care. 

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte runs the Strengthening Families Program, which employs seven social workers who serve more than 200 families with children annually.  This program connects those in need to the services that help them lead healthy, productive lives.
