Volunteering

At the YMCA, your time and talent go a long way. Every hour you spend as a YMCA volunteer translates into healthier lives for people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes.

As a YMCA volunteer, you can lead an exercise class, read to a preschool class, coach a basketball team, greet people at the front desk, serve as a role model for young people, help out in the office or at a special event.  No matter how you help, you'll make a big difference as you work with others to create a connection with your community.

High School Volunteering Program
This program gives High School students an opportunity to make an impact in the community around them. The Siskey YMCA engages teenagers and gets them connected into programs that they have a passion for in order to give them a positive volunteering experience.

Studies show teenagers increase their self esteem by volunteering as they gain new skills and meet positive adult role models. In order to develop positive personality traits, young people need the chance to step outside of their own lives and help others. Helping others can have a lasting impact on their lives. Youth that volunteer just one hour a week are 50% less likely to abuse drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or engage in destructive behavior. They are more likely to do well in school and to graduate. Studies show that youth who volunteer are three times more likely to volunteer as adults. These young volunteers are more likely to vote and be philanthropic when they get older.
