The purpose of the Y-Guides program is to help foster understanding and companionship between a dad and his children. As a part of the program we use a few traditions and rituals to assist us in the memory making process. These traditions and rituals help bring a sense of continuity, community, intrigue and magic to the Y-Guides program.
These traditions and rituals include:
Y-Guides Indian Names
Each dad and child choose a Y-Guides name which they use in the program. People use hobbies, traits, characteristics, and the Native American culture – whatever you want to help choose your Y-Guides name. Click the Y-Guides name generator to help you choose.
Program Attire
Members of Y-Guides choose to purchase a vest to wear at events. The vests become the place where members display the patches they earn and receive for attending events. A Y-Guides vest becomes a wonderful memento of all of the memories one makes while in the program. Other program attire is optional.
Longhouse Ceremony
At each Longhouse we have a magical ceremony which adds to the intrigue and continuity of the program. This ceremony combines tribal chants, awards and special private moments between a dad and a child. This evening ceremony is a highlight for all participants.
