Carolina Panther Visits YMCAs in Africa

Minter in AfricaCarolina Panther Mike Minter returned March 19, 2007 from a visit to the YMCAs in Senegal and The Gambia. As part of his continued commitment to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, Minter traveled with his two sons and other YMCA staff to visit the YMCAs in Africa. He has committed to help raise $90,000 to support the education, literacy and vocational training programs at these YMCAs.

Mike Minter has a history of commitment to the YMCA, beginning with a $160,000 pledge to the University City YMCA. In 2007, Minter increased his commitment to the YMCA by joining the Metropolitan Board of Directors. Board members choose a committee or area of interest where they will lend their time. Minter chose YWorld, embracing the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s partnership with its sister YMCAs in Senegal and The Gambia. He says it represents his interests in children, health, education and faith.

Minter in AfricaThe YMCA of Greater Charlotte has an ongoing relationship with the YMCAs of Senegal and The Gambia to strengthen their program expertise, leadership development and operational resources to enable them to serve the growing needs of a diverse population and build capacity for long-term sustainability. These YMCAs deliver vital community development programming that includes: vocational training, education and literacy, health education and advocacy and leadership development.
