YMCA Welcomes Michael J. Manning as Chief Financial Officer

Mike-Manning.jpeg[Charlotte, NC – June 19, 2018] The YMCA of Greater Charlotte, a nonprofitserving nearly 300,000 adults and children annually, has appointed Michael J. Manning as the new chief financial officer. Manning currently serves as chief financial officer at the Charlotte Chamber and will work with the Y’s executive team and board to provide leadership, strategic planning and fiscal oversight of the Y’s financial affairs and initiatives.

With 30 years of experience in financial and management responsibility, Manning has led the finance, administrative, information systems and human resources functions at one of the largest chambers in the nation. During his 18 year tenure, Manning managed database and software conversions, was responsible for maintaining investor relationships and developed the financial plan for the award-winning design of the chamber’s office relocation including the lease negotiation. Manning is highly respected for his broad experience in corporate and nonprofit industries.

“I am thrilled that Mike is joining our team,” said Todd Tibbits, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. “Mike is an experienced financial strategist and leader capable of elevating our Y’s vision ‘to transform lives and strengthen community’ without sacrificing our financial integrity.”

Manning has long held a passion for community involvement – particularly around the issues of education, diversity, inclusion and equity. As a father, he served multiple terms as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools PTA President, is a former Keith Family YMCA officer and board member, and most recently completed his leadership role as chair of the Community Building Initiative.

“I look forward to this new challenge which will allow me to build upon my work at the chamber and with other nonprofits,” said Manning. “The Y affords me the opportunity to more closely align my personal and professional life focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.”

“This is a great opportunity for Mike to apply his professional skills and experience in the financial management of another mission focused nonprofit in our community. The work of the YMCA is an important component of our economic development efforts, quality of life and ability to connect, innovate and grow opportunity for all who live and work in Charlotte,” added  Bob Morgan, Charlotte Chamber President and CEO.
Manning has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of South Carolina and his MBA from Queens University of Charlotte. He was awarded the CFO of the Year Award by the Charlotte Business Journal in 2016, is a National Association of Corporate Directors Governance Fellow, and is past two-term president of the Financial Executives Institute (Southern Carolinas Chapter).
