Keith FamilyIn 1996, Graeme M. Keith, Sr. played an integral role in securing and developing the site for the University City YMCA. Twenty years later the University City branch now serves individuals and families who live, work and play in this vibrant, growing area. Thanks to the generosity of the Keith family, the branch was renamed Keith Family YMCA in March 2017.
The YMCA of Greater Charlotte is not only grateful for the Keith family's support at this branch but also for their multi-generational support across our Y community. Graeme M. Keith, Sr. coached his son Graeme M. Keith, Jr. (Greg) in basketball at the Central (now Dowd) YMCA. Graeme also served faithfully on the Association Board of Directors from 1984 to 1997 and later as a Trustee. He received in 2002 the John R. Mott Award, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte's highest honor for service. Greg served on the Dowd YMCA Board of Managers from 1992 to 1999 (Board Chair: 1997-1998) and on the Association Board of Directors from 2001 to 2005. Greg's wife, India, served on the Harris YMCA Board of Managers from 1999 to 2009 (Board Chair: 2006-2007) and on the Association Board from 2010 to 2016. Greg and India's children, Dowd, Graeme III, Barrett, Tanner and Cody played youth sports at both the Harris and Dowd YMCAs, often under the coaching of their dad.
The Keith family looks forward to future generations serving and playing at the YMCA of Greater Charlotte and firmly supports and upholds the mission "to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all."
