Leaders Register Now

Somewhere between being a kid and becoming an adult, a teen is discovering who they are and who they want to be.

The Y believes every teenager should have the opportunity to explore his or her potential and think big. We know that teens will rise to meet expectations set for them, so we set our expectations high. The mentors, staff and other role models in our programs value our teens' individuality and guide them toward becoming responsible and engaged adults.

Y LEADERS' CLUB | Grades 8 - 12
This nation-wide community service based program helps teens discover their full potential as leaders. It’s a safe place where local teens can gather and simply be themselves. Our goal is to challenge teens to serve the community and to help them grow into their best selves. The program includes:
  • Leadership training
  • Teaching on social responsibility and service to others
  • Once a week meetings
  • Social events and service projects
  • A week-long retreat at the Blue Ridge Leaders’ School
Registration runs from August through September. Admission outside of this date range will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

YOUTH & GOVERNMENT | Grades 9 - 12
This is a life-changing program for high school students interested in politics and debate. The program includes:
  • Creating a bill and gaining first-hand experience with governmental procedure
  • Experiencing the Youth Legislative Conference, a laboratory experience for North Carolina governmental processes
  • Attending a 4-day conference in Raleigh as senators, house representatives, lobbyists, officials and press representatives
Registration runs from August through September.

Our summer camp environment provides a unique opportunity for teens to build leadership skills, particularly in assisting counselors with younger campers. The goal of our C.I.T. program is to prepare the next generation of camp counselors by teaching leadership, communication and management skills that can be used at school, home and in the community. Our Counselors in Training will learn specific skills for working with kids and coworkers while also gaining experience planning and leading activities. Teens must commit to attending one of two possible five week sessions in order to serve as a C.I.T.

Interviews and registration runs from February through May. Admission outside of this date range will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Teens learn how to supervise children, recognize safety hazards, handle first-aid situations, play age appropriate, change diapers, carry out parents' instructions and discuss job responsibilities. Training includes Basic Infant/Child CPR and American Safety & Health Institute Babysitting.

Do you have a group of children interested in becoming top-notch babysitters? Purchase a private class of Babysitter Training for your Girl Scout Group, birthday party or neighborhood to learn and grow together!
