About the Programs
We offer two unique and innovative approaches to “traditional” Afterschool. Our programs are great options for those needing full-time afternoon childcare as well as for families that are just looking for a few afternoons of fun and learning for their children!

Morrison Family YMCA – For grades K-5, we offer a variety of programs throughout the afternoon that can be bundled to create a personalized schedule for each child. For grades 6-8 we offer a program that allows kids to get their school work done, gives them positive role models, and fosters building healthy relationships with their peers through fun activities and increased independence.

Ballantyne Arts Center – Elementary students participate in three professionally led arts classes each session including theatre, dance, visual art and cooking selections, in addition to homework and other creative based program selections to round out each afternoon.

If your child is normally scheduled to come to us on a day when school has a scheduled early release, we will be ready to get them / accept them according to that schedule. Registration is NOT required in advance. Should you need care on an early release day when your child is not ordinarily scheduled to attend, you can register for a drop-in day. That daily rate is $25 per day for members and $40 per day for non-members.

Our program is open on Out of School Days at no additional charge for Afterschool package participants, but REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED IN ADVANCE. We cannot guarantee that you will have a spot in the Out of School Days as spaces are limited and awarded on a first come first served basis. After a certain point, remaining spots will be opened to the community. If an Out of School Day does not reach a minimum number of 5 registrants, we will cancel the program for that day.
  • Activity Options: During Out of School Days, students will be grouped based on their grade level and they will rotate through various activities throughout the day. Students will also have some opportunities to make a choice between activities. Some of these activities may include arts and crafts in a classroom, Gaga Ball, card and board games, dodgeball, field games, etc. Each day, we will also offer an in-house field trip or special event. View options >>
  • Add-on Opportunities: You have the opportunity to register your child for an add-on activity at a reduced cost. Some of these add-on options may include, but are not limited to, field trips, cooking classes or arts experiences. If you choose an add-on activity, your card on file will be charged at the time of registration.
  • Drop-Off: Early drop-off is available on Out of School Days from 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM. Please park and come in to our program entrance for check-in. Pick-up will be available all day at the Dee Dee Harris Program Entrance and our carline will open from 5:15 PM - 6:30 PM.
Food / Snack Info
We provide snacks every day for students, and hand them out upon arrival. You can send along a snack with your child if you prefer, but please DO NOT send your child with any food containing nuts. We are a nut-free program. Program Add-Ons
The Morrison Family YMCA Afterschool Program offers a club-based model, where kids and parents can select an individualized schedule of activities for the duration of each of our sessions. We offer “Tier One” clubs that are included in the cost of afterschool. We also offer add-on opportunities that have an additional cost associated. Those include activities such as: Dance, Gymnastics, Cooking, Sports Leagues, Visual and Performing Arts, Youth Fitness, Tutoring, etc. Afterschool students do receive a discounted price on those programs. Take a look at our available add-ons listed on our Program Grids that parents use to select their child’s schedule. View Add-On Options >>
Pick Up
Carline will run from 5:15 PM - 6:30 PM each day and will take place on the side of the YMCA building by our preschool playgrounds. If you are utilizing carline, please do not get out of your car in order to pick up your child. Your child will be escorted to your vehicle. We are not authorized to buckle your child into the car. If they are unable to do so themselves, please pull forward out of the carline and help them. You must use the PikMyKid app to use carline or you will be directed inside for pickup.

If you need to drop off in person, pick up early, or prefer to come in to pick up, please be prepared to park in a designated parking space and walk in to the Dee Dee Harris Program entrance near the pool. Please do not park in the fire lane. We will have an Afterschool table set up in the lobby where a staff member can help you.

Please park in a designated parking space and proceed upstairs to the Ballantyne Arts Center. You will check out with the class assistant in the lobby. Additional parking is available behind the AAA.

  • For the safety of your child, participants will only be released to a legal guardian or responsible adult listed on the child’s account.
  • Every adult must present a government-issued photo ID during pick-up each day.
  • In the event that a child will be picked up by an adult not listed on the registration form, please email the MorrisonYouthPrograms@ymcacharlotte.org and include the person's name as it appears on their photo ID. Please notify the person that a picture ID will be required during pick-up.
  • If there are special circumstances involving custody issues you must provide the Director with legal documentation of these arrangements.
We are using PikMyKid to expedite our pick-up process. This is an app that you install on your phone to “Announce” that you have arrived for pick up. This will allow us to start gathering your child for pick-up. When you arrive in car line or at the PAC desk we will continue to check your ID. Anyone using carline must use the PikMyKid app. PikMyKid Information >>
