[Charlotte, NC – June 22, 2017] The YMCA of Greater Charlotte is excited to announce the Lake Norman YMCA and Ingersoll Rand, a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments, have teamed up for the new Lake Norman YMCA Sprint Triathlon presented by Ingersoll Rand.

The Lake Norman YMCA Sprint Triathlon will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at its new location, the Ingersoll Rand US headquarters in Davidson, NC. Ingersoll Rand and the Lake Norman YMCA have a strong partnership that has been in place for decades, making the decision to relocate an easy one. Situated on Lake Norman, Ingersoll Rand’s campus is a prime race location offering smooth water, safer biking in and out of town, a nice run on the campus and a perfect finish!

“We are thrilled to partner with Ingersoll Rand to take this triathlon to the next level this year,” says Lake Norman YMCA Executive Director, Ben Pinegar. “Ingersoll Rand has been a dedicated partner of our Y for many years and continues to make a positive impact in the community. We can think of no better partner nor place to host this signature event.”

The Y sprint triathlon had been held at the Lake Norman YMCA since its inception in 1997, but as the area around the YMCA grew, the course had become increasingly congested and difficult to maneuver. By moving to the new venue, the courses will be even safer and the event will have room to grow.

Ingersoll Rand previously hosted the Lake Davidson Triathlon on its campus, which will now merge with the Lake Norman YMCA Tri. Packet pick-up, a pre-race meeting and a pasta dinner is planned for late afternoon on Friday, August 25 under the pavilion at the Lake Norman YMCA water front.

Proceeds from the Lake Norman YMCA Sprint Triathlon support the Lake Norman YMCA’s efforts to give children and adults the chance to overcome physical disabilities through the Adaptive Water Ski program. In partnership with the Carolinas Healthcare Systems Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program, the program is the only of its kind in North Carolina. Participants not only learn to ski, but learn to face and overcome their challenges as well. The Ada Jenkins Center will also benefit from proceeds of the event. The Ada Jenkins Center strives to improve the quality of life for the residents of our local communities through the integrated delivery of health, education and human services.
