Camp Boomerang for Children with Diverse Abilities

Camp Boomerang™ immerses children with diverse abilities (ages 5 - 15) into the conventional summer day camp experience at the Brace Family YMCA. All campers participate side by side in age appropriate activities, sports and fitness.  These activities include fishing, field sports, tower, swimming, archery, arts and crafts and much more. In addition, campers take part in specialized enrichment activities several times per week.

We provide support staff (peer buddies, two-on-one staffing and one-on-one staffing) to children with diverse abilities. Camp leadership determines the individual staffing model. (Due to COVID-19 we are unable to provide a lower camper to counselor ratio than 1 staff to 3 campers.  If you feel your child would be more successful with a lower ratio, please note that you will need to provide your child with a buddy over the age of 15.)

We accept a maximum of 20 campers with diverse abilities per week. In accordance with YMCA camping guidelines, campers must be fully toilet trained (not in pull-ups or diapers) to participate in Camp Boomerang™ and must not have any significant aggressive behavior issues. (Please note due to COVID-19 and YMCA guidelines, all campers and staff are required to wear a face covering while at camp)

Completing the Brace Family YMCA Day Camp Registration and Camp Boomerang™ Camper Registration Form is required. At this time, a $10 deposit per week will be required to secure your camper’s spot. Financial assistance is available.
