EXTENDED ENRICHMENT AND REMOTE LEARNING

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte has worked diligently, and in collaboration with local school systems, to develop remote learning programs that align with StrongSchoolsNC Public Health Toolkit requirements while also supporting out-of-school time.

School Days + is a program that is critical to supporting our community’s children, families and educators.

Our YMCA locations provide a place where students can go to participate in their remote learning classes. This program is offered Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Hours may vary by location, and exact times may vary depending on school system student attendance policies. We have also outlined some additional details on remote learning expectations to help you navigate this school year.

THE PROGRAM

School Days + is a program designed to provide families with flexible options for remote learning. As an approved remote learning site for Charlotte Mecklenburg, Iredell-Statesville, Mooresville Graded and Lincoln County school districts, our programs boast caring facilitators at each location. Program Directors, Education Enrichment Coordinators and additional staff are trained to assist your child with their remote learning experience and schoolwork creating an environment conducive to learning and concentration. Our spaces are designed to comply with state and local guidelines for safety, social distancing and help to create optimal settings that nurture the development of each child.

Our classroom and learning areas use appropriate furniture at safe distances and include libraries, personal belonging areas for each student and Calming Corners, equipped with sensory items that a student can use to relax and refocus. Small classes of students will be grouped in quiet rooms for study and remote learning time. Each group will contain between 10 - 12 students with one staff member.

Our staff ensure students stay on task, login at the correct times for live instruction/video conferencing and help with any technical difficulties. Staff are also available to help with questions students have throughout the day. Parents should also connect with their child to ensure all assignments and responsibilities have been met.

When remote learning is completed, students will have time for homework or structured, age-appropriate educational enrichment activities.

Wi-Fi is provided at every location to support video chats, streaming media and other online school demands.

Each student should bring a face covering, device, wired headphones with a microphone and appropriate school supplies. Please make sure your student knows how to log in to their school’s website and learning platforms and how to operate their devices and software. Students should also pack two snacks, a water bottle and lunch. Please dress comfortably.
