YMCA Camp Harrison COVID-19 Update
EXPLORE NEW HORIZONS WITH US THIS SUMMER
At YMCA Camp Harrison, we know that a true summer experience is what children need most right now. We also know things will look different for many of us this summer and as families continue to plan for this upcoming season, the YMCA Camp Harrison will be a resource for you. Our children will seek socialization at a safe distance in more ways than before as a result of how COVID-19 has changed our world.
This summer YMCA Camp Harrison will follow a model that puts the health and safety of our campers and staff first, while providing care to your children in even more ways than before. Our goal is to give your camper an experience that will still capture the magic of summer amidst all of these additional steps.
With guidance from Y-USA, the American Camping Association and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Camp Harrison will follow COVID-19 safety precautions as identified. Currently, our preliminary plans will include practices such as lower staff to camper ratio, social distancing, frequent handwashing and enhanced sanitation practices.
We have also updated our check-in and check-out procedures, added daily temperature and health screenings, adjusted dining hall/food service schedules and will no longer serve food family-style. Additionally, we have installed sanitation stations for all program areas and hired more staff that are exclusively responsible for disinfecting and cleaning our camp ground. To ensure your camper’s safety we have also developed Coronavirus-specific staff training and campers will now stay in smaller groups as determined by state and local guidelines.
Located between Lenoir and North Wilkesboro in North Carolina, YMCA Camp Harrison at Herring Ridge offers exciting opportunities for all who come through our gates. Camp Harrison is a co-ed overnight camp for kids ages 6-16 set on over 2,000 acres of land, streams, and trails just 90 miles from Charlotte in the mountains of North Carolina.
Our campers choose from a broad range of challenge-by-choice activities and are empowered to create adventures that fit their unique interests. Kids develop lifelong friendships by embracing authenticity and accepting their differences. Our campers have a great time enjoying God’s creation, building relationships and challenging themselves as they learn new skills.
As a Christian organization, YMCA Camp Harrison helps each camper understand what it means to have a relationship with Christ. Morning watch, vespers services and nightly cabin devotions highlight our Christian values through the study of God’s Word, worship songs, testimonies and more. In our small community, campers receive individual attention from the positive Christian role models who serve as our counselors and staff.
