Water Safety Together
Event Date(s)
Location
National Water Safety Month is an annual awareness campaign every May to ensure the public is reminded of safe swimming practices before increased swim activity over the summer. Drowning statistics are a harsh reality - it is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-5 and 2nd leading cause of death for children under age 14. Mecklenburg County has the highest number of deaths by drowning in NC, surpassing coastal counties.
To support this critical awareness campaign, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte is pleased to partner with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation to host Water Safety Together on Saturday, May 16.
Children ages 6-17 are invited to join us at one of two locations to experience water safety in the pool with swim instructors, to learn life jacket how-to, and for a CPR demo (for older youth and teens).
