Y Achievers

INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE

Y Achievers helps teens in grades 9-12 prepare for exciting possibilities beyond high school. Teens meet weekly to learn information and skills that will help them successfully complete high school and enter college or the workforce after graduation. In addition to weekly meetings, the program also includes opportunities for social activities, parent workshops, and volunteering.

Black Achievers was started in 1971 at the Harlem Branch YMCA to help African-American teens improve academic standards and boost self-esteem. Since then, YMCAs across the country have adopted the Achievers program to help teens of color set and  pursue educational and career goals resulting in high school graduation and acceptance to an institution of higher learning. Rooted in the national framework, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte has been operating Y Achievers since 2011.

During the 2023-2024 school year, Y Achievers is offered at the Keith and McCrorey YMCAs.
