An extension of the Morrison YMCA, the Ballantyne Arts Center offers a vibrant arts integrated preschool and programs in theatre, dance, and visual art to inspire youth.

We know the power that visual and performing arts have on young minds and hearts. So we expanded our programs at the Y through the Ballantyne Arts Center. Our 9,000-square-foot facility opened its doors in 2009 as part of our commitment to develop the whole child — body, mind and spirit — and to expose young people in our growing community to the wonder of the arts.
The Center is filled with non-stop action - one step in the front door and you can feel, see and hear the energy! Down one hall are the taps of twinkle-toed 10-year-olds, and in the other direction a director in the theatre exclaims “Take it from the top!” Then there’s the laughter of teens in an improv class and right next door are elementary age students excitedly painting with watercolors. And that’s just a glimpse into a typical weeknight of lessons, rehearsals and classes.

We have two spacious dance studios that are made for twirling, whirling, tapping and hip-hoppin’. One studio has a wooden dance floor, three mirrored walls and plenty of natural light. The other studio has a Marley dance floor with three mirrored walls and ballet bars.
Parents love watching their actor perform in our Black Box Theatre, an intimate venue seating 60 in proscenium-style with sets designed in house by professional set designers. We use our studio classrooms for theatre training and theatrical and musical specials.
Our studio classrooms are used for art classes and are spacious enough to have a formal showcase of artwork at the end of a session. Our classes and workshops include photography, drawing and painting for adults and children.
In the mornings, the Ballantyne Arts Center, is dedicated to energetic preschoolers. In addition to four preschool classrooms, these early learners have unique access to the full arts facility including the dance studios and theatre for weekly arts specials and Showcases. Featuring an academically rich curriculum infused with the arts, children enjoy lots of room to explore, learn create, imagine and play.

The Ballantyne Arts Afterschool program, for rising Kindergarten to 5th grade students, includes three professionally led arts classes each session including theatre, dance, visual art and cooking selections, in addition to homework and other creative based program selections to round out each afternoon.
The Ballantyne Arts Center is located about a mile from the Morrison Y at the corner of Ballantyne Commons Parkway and North Community House Road.
