The Y Mission- Mission Statement

THE Y'S MISSION IS TO PUT CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY FOR ALL.

Our mission defines us. We know that building stronger and healthier kids, adults and families comes about when we all work together. That’s why at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

OUR VISION

To be a catalyst to transform lives and communities.

Our strength is in community. The YMCA of Greater Charlotte is a nonprofit like no other. Deeply rooted in the community since 1874, we have the long-standing relationships and physical presence in 19 locations and two resident camps.  The YMCA vision is not just to promise, but to deliver lasting personal and social change.

OUR VALUES

Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Faith.

Our core values unite us as a YMCA Movement. They are the shared beliefs and essential principles that guide our behavior, interactions with each other and decision-making. As individuals and a collective organization, we promise to engage and operate in ways that exemplify these values.

OUR FOCUS

For Youth Development - Nurturing the potential of every child and teen.

For Healthy Living - Improving the nation’s health and well-being.

For Social Responsibility - Giving back and providing support to our neighbors.

We believe that to bring about meaningful change in individuals and communities, we must be focused and accountable. At the Y, we measure the success of our cause by how well we engage communities in our three areas of focus. We’re a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, for healthy living and for social responsibility. That’s because a vibrant community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. From water safety to disease prevention, youth literacy to college readiness, safe, inclusive spaces to welcoming newcomers, everything our Y does is in service to making us – as individuals and a community – better.
