Y Readers Adminstrative Volunteers

At the Y, we know that reading proficiently by the end of third grade is a critical milestone in the success of children – one in six children who do not read proficiently by the end of third grade does not graduate from high school on time. The YMCA of Greater Charlotte started Y Readers to address this critical community need by providing high-quality literacy instruction and individualized attention to students who are in jeopardy of slipping through the cracks. The YMCA reading program provides the additional support students need to gain self-confidence and be proficient in reading by the end of third grade. Volunteers will assist our staff with various administrative activities as part of the Y Readers program.

YMCA of Greater Charlotte Food Shares

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte has partnered with Loaves & Fishes in Charlotte to help distribute food to our communities in need. Our Food Shares occur during the week at some of our local branches and involve taking the large amounts of donated food, breaking them up into individual boxes and then passing them out to cars as they drive through the line. These opportunities are perfect for groups of 15 or less and make a great team building activity. If you have a group that wishes to come out as a team, let us know by emailing us at volunteer@ymcacharlotte.org.
