Morrison YMCA Charity Golf Tournament

This annual event benefits the YMCA Annual Campaign which support programs such as our nationally recognized literacy program, Y Readers, for under-resourced 1st and 2nd graders at Nations Ford Elementary School. Volunteers will assist with setup, check-in/registration, pre-event activities, course/hole monitoring and post-event activities.

Morrison YMCA Dance Classes and Camps

Volunteers will assist with presenting dance classes and camps through activities that are used to teach these activities. ***Volunteers must attend the appropriate, in-person training for the type of camp they wish to volunteer with during the summer. Volunteers who do not attend the correct training for camp will not be permitted to volunteer for that type of camp during the current summer.***

Harris ESL Conversation Volunteers

Through their partnership, the Harris YMCA and Forest Hill Church offer English classes to adults living in the South Blvd corridor three times per week. The program seeks to acculturate the students and build community while providing participants with the language skills they seek in order to improve their lives and the lives of their families. Spring Volunteer Qualifications —Available at least twice a month on Wednesdays (7-9 pm) or Thursdays (10am -12pm) --Strong command of the English language --Interested in those with other backgrounds and experiences --Speaking or understanding Spanish is helpful, but not required Summer Volunteer Qualifications In the summer, several students with intermediate level English meet in small groups (3-4 students) with one volunteer to practice conversation skills. In cooperation with the students, the volunteer chooses the day, time and place for meetings 2-4 times per month June through August (1.5- 2 hours per meeting). --Available at least twice a month on an established schedule of one morning or evening on a weekday (Monday – Thursday) **All volunteers will work under the guidance of the ESL Director.
