Healthy Living - Fitness Programs at the YMCA of Greater Charlotte

Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. At the Y, we offer a variety of equipment, classes and programs for getting and staying healthy including Group Exercise, Personal Training, Specialty Training, Aquatics, and more.

 

Our Legacy – over 100 years of building happier, healthier lives.

The first YMCA buildings with gymnasiums led a health movement for the young people who were gathered in these spaces for camaraderie and fellowship. In 1881, Robert J. Roberts, a staff member at the Boston YMCA, coined the term "bodybuilding." Roberts organized exercise regimes that morphed over the years into the fitness classes of today. Those classes and the healthy living movement of the YMCA continue to be the impetus for fellowship and community allowing our members to stretch and grow their minds, bodies and spirits together.

 

Improving Health and Well-Being

Our health and wellness experts guide members toward the right steps to achieve each individual’s health potential. Beyond fitness facilities, we provide educational programs to promote healthier decisions and support physical, intellectual and spiritual strength. YMCA Members have access to dozens of different classes and fitness sessions, many of which are offered free of charge to active members.

Whether one is just getting started, looking to intensify one's fitness connection, or hoping to find life-balance, the small daily groups that we offer engage members’ bodies, minds, and spirits - truly transforming their lives. Get Active

Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. Whether young or old, beginner or veteran, the Y offers a variety of equipment, classes and programs for getting and staying healthy.

We know a healthy lifestyle is often too hard to achieve alone. We help put goals in motion with a personalized fitness plan that motivates and inspires.

Group Exercise

The hundreds of classes we offer daily are a reflection of the diversity of our community: there’s room for everyone. Our schedules range from early morning to evening opportunities and present times and places where community can come together. Instructors are certified to rally the fiercest fitness competitors and to support the newest workout explorers.

Classes are offered both in our branches and in the community for greater fellowship that breaks down barriers of class, race and geography.

Personal Training

Working with a personal trainer transforms more than a healthy body – it empowers a community to be stronger. At the Y, our certified personal trainers are committed to the cause that is core to our mission: creating healthy spirits, minds and bodies for all. Trainers give the emotional and physical support to our member community that drives them to share their best gifts with others.

YMCA personal trainers give people freedom to choose a healthier life by education and awareness in a variety of personal and community forums.
