Caring For Our Children - Reversing Learning Loss

HELP BOOST LITERACY SKILLS

It’s difficult to predict what missing months of school, combined with summer slide, may mean for children who are already at risk of falling behind academically. During a traditional summer break, low-income students lose an average of more than two months in reading achievement. Following three months of remote learning, this summer has the potential to be academically devastating for low-income children who lack access to structured learning opportunities.

Summer Reading Support Is Critical

The Y Readers program is more critical than ever to help reverse learning loss experienced in the spring and prevent further summer slide. The Y’s summer literacy camp serves students in grades K-3 who are reading below grade level, employing certified teachers to provide rigorous reading and writing instruction to boost literacy skills, along with enrichment activities to support physical and social emotional growth.

Help Make Y Readers Possible

We need your support to ensure Y Readers can operate virtually this summer, serving hundreds of students at risk of falling even further behind.
