YMCA OF GREATER CHARLOTTE ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR MCCROREY FAMILY YMCA

Charlotte, N.C. – (May 8, 2023) - The YMCA of Greater Charlotte has named Niambi Goings as the new executive director of its McCrorey Family YMCA, located in the heart of Charlotte’s Beatties Ford Road corridor.

Goings is a community advocate who brings 15 years of experience in nonprofit advocacy and corporate events, most recently with the Mecklenburg County Public Health Department’s Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) team. There, she served as a health program information and education coordinator, providing community stakeholders with evidence-based parenting education tools to a 10-county service area.

“I am excited to be joining such an amazing staff and community here at the McCrorey Y,” said Goings. “The strong history and legacy of this Y in Charlotte’s African American community were a huge part of what drew me to this role. I am looking forward to continuing the impactful work that has been started, as well as developing and implementing new and innovative approaches to move this branch and community forward toward a bright future!”

A Bronx, N.Y., native, Goings holds a master’s degree in youth, family, and community sciences, as well as graduate certificates in volunteer and leadership management, family life education, and coaching - all from North Carolina State University. She is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of others and serving community with a diversity, equity and inclusion lens.

“We are excited to bring Niambi to the Beatties Ford Road corridor, where her passion for people and community will elevate the transformational work already underway in this part of the city,” shared Joyce Tompkins, vice president of operations and community impact.

Serving the Beatties Ford Road corridor in West Charlotte since 1936, the McCrorey Family YMCA has been a cornerstone in the community. Known for its annual Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast that raises funds for youth programming and the recently opened Best Buy® Teen Tech Center, youth at the McCrorey Family YMCA have access to experiences that can set them up for life-long success. McCrorey Y also has an active senior community, which serves as a center for connection, contributing to the physical and mental health of many community senior citizens.
