Our Partnership with Lincoln County Schools

Lincoln County Schools, in partnership with the Lincoln County and Sally’s YMCA, offers the Y Readers program each summer. Y Readers is a 6 week intensive summer reading program that aims to not only prevent the inevitable summer backslide that often happens with students who struggle with reading, but to also grow their reading skills. Y Readers Lincoln County is housed at Iron Station Elementary School and serves a total of 32 rising 2nd and 3rd grade students, 16 from Catawba Springs Elementary and 16 from Iron Station Elementary. Y Readers is more than just a reading program; students are able to interact with community leaders and other positive role models through our volunteer program and students are given the camp experience with a variety of enrichment opportunities and field trips happening throughout the summer. The Y Readers program is a fantastic example of collaborative effort between the community and the school system.
